President Draupadi Murmu, using the powers conferred by provision three of Section 77 of the Constitution, changed the rules related to e-sports and asked the Ministry of Information Technology and Electronics and Sports to include e-sports in multi-sport events. Since the inclusion of e-sports as a demonstration sport in the Jakarta Asian Games 2018, there has been a demand to make it a part of the multi-sport event. Following the Presidential Notification (issued on December 23), the IT Ministry will be the nodal agency on online gaming related issues and the Sports Ministry will have to include it in its subject matter.
The International Olympic Committee is also promoting e-sports and in this exercise, the first Olympic e-Sports Week will also be celebrated in Singapore in June next year.
